If you live in a big city, then you know how frustrating traffic jams can get and that they are not just water under the bridge. Yandex’s analytical center conducted a research that indicates that Russian drivers spend up to two weeks a year stuck in traffic. Perhaps, such disappointing data led to the company’s decision to equip the new version of Yandex.Maps with a built-in messaging app.
The latest iOS version of Yandex.Maps is actually the most significant update the app has seen in years. In addition to adding its very own and somewhat unusual messenger, the app now also features 3D Touch, the possibility to search for companies and to sort your search results according to distance and rating.
Yandex.Maps users have repeatedly expressed their desire to communicate with their fellow drivers and, judging by the look of things, their feedback has finally been heard. Drivers who use Yandex.Maps can now leave comments to get in touch with other automobile owners in their vicinity.
The app’s management is taking things slow featurewise. For the time being, drivers can socialize only in group chats, but there is still hope that Yandex.Maps will give them an opportunity to send out private messages to specific app users.
Who knows, maybe the app will do more than just help us kill time in traffic. What if you come across like-minded people or even make friends during the next rush hour?
