It is no secret that not only do stickers breathe more life into our communication, but they are a source of profit to their owners. Paid stickers and emojis can hardly be considered a surprise anymore. True story: you can find them in almost every communication application out there. Up until now, Facebook’s selflessness managed to hold its position by laying a great emphasis on the fact that such content should be free.
However, Facebook’s unwavering altruistic premise was shaken by its partnership with Singapore startup PicoCandy. The collaboration resulted in the development of paid sticker packs for the social network. And even though Facebook is only the middleman in this case, we can’t deny the fact that paid content is now in the building.
Now, anyone is welcome to purchase third-party stickers at a price of $0.99-1.99 per pack. To do so, go to PicoCandy’s app where you can purchase new stickers and directly send them out in any text message, chat or status update. Frankly speaking, this transmission method isn’t too convenient and the innovation will most probably suffer the same fate as GIFs, namely further in-app integration.
PicoCandy’s management claims that new relevant and culturally considerate stickers will be added to existing collections every now and then. For the time being, the app offers nine paid-for and four free sticker collections.
