Facebook is one of the world’s largest social networks. It is visited by over 800 mn users daily. It is open for app developers and has recently been turned into platform. The idea of working on this project dawned on Mark Zuckerberg back in 2004, when he was a Harvard student. What Mark and his roommates first created was thefacebook.com website and it was meant only for the Harvard community. Later on, more universities joined in, and the founders bought the facebook.com domain. In 2006, any user was welcome to sign up using their e-mail.

Zuckerberg also built a music player Synapse, which let a computer automatically make up a list of music tracks for its owner. This was not a commercial project, however.

Facebook Messenger

Facebook Messenger

In 2001, Facebook Messenger for smartphones was released. This messaging app unites all of the social network community and allows people to exchanges text messages, audio and video files. In 2014, Facebook announced that it would disable the option of messaging through Facebook’s mobile version and that all communication from that point on would be conducted through Facebook Messenger. This was later implemented, as intended. Despite the fact that this move was heavily criticized by the user community, Messenger remained as popular as it had been before.

The idea to create the Messenger appeared because of the trend to make such apps. A lot of users began to spend more time with their smartphones rather than with their PCs. Facebook decided to keep up with the trend and created the Messenger. It is important to remember that Facebook and Facebook Messenger are totally different mobile apps. The first one is a mobile version of the social network. The second is Facebook’s messaging app for smartphones made, first of all, to let users communicate.
