Instagram is rolling out Stories. “Today, we’re introducing Instagram Stories, a new feature that lets you share all the moments of your day, not just the ones you want to keep on your profile. As you share multiple photos and videos, they appear together in a slideshow format: your story,” the company wrote in a blog, calling the new feature a solution to ‘overposting’.
After you update Instagram app on your phone, you will see a new bar at the top of your feed. On the top left, there is a plus sign in a circle. You can use it to add your own stories and when your friends post a story, you will see their profile photo on the top of the feed with a colorful ring around it.
“With Instagram Stories, you can share as much as you want throughout the day — with as much creativity as you want. You can bring your story to life in new ways with text and drawing tools. The photos and videos will disappear after 24 hours and won’t appear on your profile grid or in feed,” says the company. You can also choose who sees your stories, using your privacy settings. Public comments or likes are not allowed on stories, but you can see who viewed it and write comments on stories of your friends using Instagram Direct.
Instagram Stories will be rolling out globally over the next few weeks on iOS and Android.
