A new minimalistic design of the popular photo and video sharing app Instagram is currently being rolled out to a small number of users. It seems that Instagram has decided to go from colorful scheme of design to a good old black-and-white.
Our journalist was lucky to become one of the users to get the new design. Now, the app has more white space, it looks quite minimalistic and has many redesigned icons. For instance, the camera icon now looks like a classical camera instead of a square with a circle inside that looked more like a toy camera. Also, the notifications feed is now found under a heart icon instead of a heart inside the bubble. And the icon for your profile now looks like a person instead of resembling a postcard.
All is all the new design, albeit black-and-white, seems quite stylish and up-to-date. It certainly stands out among the rest of the apps on your phone. It is not clear, however, whether this new version of the app will roll out to the wider audience. “We often test new experiences with a small percentage of the global community,” an Instagram spokesman told The Verge. “This is a design test only.”
