Popular messaging app Viber is rolling out new security features with its latest release Viber 6.0. “Our team at Viber has been working hard to give you more control over your private conversations. Today we are taking another step in this direction by making your private communication even safer through end-to-end encryption, hidden chats and message deletion,” announced the company.
In order to enjoy secured communication, first you need to make sure you have the latest version of Viber. Then find the lock icon on the right side of your screen. You will also see different colors of locks. The grey lock will mean that the conversation is entirely encrypted. You can manually authenticate contacts to select they are “trusted”. In this case the lock color will change to green. And if you see a red lock, it will mean that there is a problem with the authentication key.
Furthermore, Viber also launched Hidden Chats today. This option allows users to hide a specific chat from the main screen and no one, but the user will know that they exist. In order to access Hidden Chats, you will need to enter a four-digit PIN or Touch ID, if you have iOS.
The end-to-end encryption will become available throughout the world over the next few weeks across all of its apps on Android, iOS, PC and Mac.
Interestingly enough, the new update comes just shortly after WhatsApp announced it was introducing end-to-end encryption to its chats.
