WE ARE SOCIAL IS AN AGENCY THAT CONDUCTS RESEARCHES IN THE FIELD OF SOCIAL MEDIA. THE OTHER DAY THEY RELEASED AN INTERESTING REPORT, WHICH DIRECTLY RELATES TO INSTANT MESSENGERS.
It’s no surprise that messengers got so many mentions in a project that seems to be dedicated to social media. Instant messaging services (and not only instant), according to most Western analysts, will soon replace all cumbersome social networks as we know them. WAS presented their comparative findings on the popularity of social media, where they included messengers on equal terms and without a twinge of conscience. This resulted in a peculiar, but very riveting, salad mix.
Facebook remains head and shoulders above the rest. After all, the top positions are occupied by FB subsidiary projects, such as WhatsApp and FB Messenger. The leader chart is closed by Snapchat, which is gaining momentum. The most popular purebred messengers among the Russian-speaking population (excluding messengers, that are part of social networks, such as FB and VK), only a few tenths of a point clear of the top, is Viber. The war-horse Skype is losing ground because it was forced to concede the forth place to Google Plus — the joker of the pack.
Judging by the short and abrupt data you can make out that messengers are not just competitors, but, in fact, they are the top contenders for becoming a more flexible and responsive communication platform, forcing most users to bypass complex social networks.
